England World Cup Site

About England
Despite England's role as the birthplace of modern football and the country's thriving professional league, England never truly contended for a world championship until the 1960s. They didn't attend the first three FIFA World Cup finals of 1930, 1934, and 1938.

England finally attended their first FIFA World Cup in 1950, but an opening victory over Chile was followed by losses to the USA and Spain, forcing the national team to go home after the first group stage. England would reach the quarter-finals in 1954 before losing to defending champions Uruguay and again reached the quarter-finals in 1962 before bowing out to eventual champions Brazil.

However, England finally earned their reward for bringing the game to the world when they hosted the 1966 FIFA World Cup England. They defeated West Germany in the final, 4-2, on the strength of a hat-trick from Geoff Hurst.
